Wheeling Mayor Seeks Another Plan From Postal Service - News, Sports, Jobs - The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

McKenzie Seeks Another Plan From Postal Service - News, Sports, Jobs - The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register: "One day after attending a meeting conducted by U.S. Postal Service officials and attended by concerned citizens and local public officeholders, Wheeling Mayor Andy McKenzie is not sitting still.

During the public meeting held Wednesday at Wheeling Park High School, numerous speakers offered their opinions that the postal service should maintain Wheeling's postal processing center at its Chapline Street location rather than moving the operation to Pittsburgh as proposed by postal service officials.

After hearing many of the comments and statistics presented, McKenzie said Thursday that he wants the postal service to conduct a more in-depth study of its potential plan to move Wheeling's mail processing operations to Pittsburgh, which could eliminate the Wheeling postmark from local mail.

Under the proposed federal plan, Wheeling's mail would be taken to Pittsburgh, processed and then distributed. Officials claim it would save the federal government about $527,000 annually."
