He was sentenced in a federal court to the maximum sentence under the guidelines of 30 months after a judge rejected Schmauder's claims that obsessive-compulsive disorder and mental illness were the reasons he stole the mail.

Schmauder apologized to the people he stole packages from at his sentencing.
